Tuesdays Perfect Blend-Coffee Date with Savannah O’Gwynn

Hello, hello! Welcome to Tuesdays Perfect Blend! Today is extra special because I have a ‘Coffee Date’ with my friend Savannah O’Gwynn! And we’re doing a little throwback to Paper Smooches!!

Before we get to our cards, here are some fun and interesting things about Savannah and I…

Isn’t it amazing how the crafty world can bring people together?!…Savannah and I met way back when blogging was the most popular way people shared their creations and magazines were still very much around, so that somewhat tells you how long we’ve known each other. A long time. (lol) Though, knowing each other this long and yet, we still never met in person! I think we’re gonna have to change that. 😉

Savannah is such a sweet person and friend. Her card making style is like no other, she knows exactly how to add ‘character’ to her creations and they are always so inspiring! If you haven’t seen her style, I definitely recommend checking her blog/IG out…you won’t be disappointed! And knowing how easy it is to relate to her, I wouldn’t be surprised if you were to call her a friend, too! 🙂

Here are some things from Savannah in her own words…

Hello, friends!
It’s an honor to be joining you as a guest designer here on the Coffee Loving Papercrafters blog!!!
THANK YOU so much, Shelly, for the coffee date invitation!

SAVfact: I have 11 food sensitivities including tea and coffee, which means I don’t drink tea or coffee at all.

However, I do love the coffee trend images (mugs, cups, fun sayings, etc) and couldn’t pass up on this fun opportunity!

SAVfact: Because I don’t drink tea or coffee you will usually find water or hot chocolate, if I’m feeling fancy, in my coffee mugs.

Background: Shelly and I have been friends for awhile— I’m almost positive I saw a FB memory of us being friends for over 10 years the other day! LOL! I do wish we could meet in person— one day after I unpack my studio (we just moved), I’ll have her over for a weekend of crafting fun! Doesn’t that sound delightful!!!! I can’t wait 🙂 Shelly and I connected through paper crafting, specifically our love for Paper Smooches goodies. Shelly’s creations inspire me— she is very clean with her designs, and her cards ALWAYS pop when I’m scrolling through my feeds; I know which cards she created without looking at post name. There’s just something about her card designs that make me think, “Why can’t I create like that!?” My paper crafting style is…. Well, I’m not sure I can define it! LOL! I just started coloring images- that’s so different than my first love which is patterned paper. I love to layer patterned papers, use different designs with bold colors… I love mixing and matching stamp/die sets… I love cutting my stamps apart…I love fussy cutting images…I love being inspired by graphics and trying to recreate what I see using my supplies… so basically, my style includes fun & whimsical with layers and sometimes coloring.

So are you ready for some Paper Smooches cards?!!…We decided to use two main PS sets and a little mixing and matching with other PS sets. Just some good ol’ fun! Here we go!…

Keeping things simple, I did some coloring with Copic markers, die cutting, and a little bit of layering. Easy peasy, right?!…

My first card clearly exhibits my love for patterned paper. Since I don’t drink coffee, I never know if I’m really using the sayings or the images correctly. So I did a search for what coffee does for someone. “Hugs in a mug” came up, as well as “morning hugs”. I took these sayings and ran with the idea of the morning sun hugging the coffee cup (images from the Paper Smooches Sunnyvale and Caffeinated sets), telling it to be awesome today.

I added a sentiment on the bottom, but don’t look too closely as I didn’t center it or curve it well! LOL!

SAVfact: If you know me, there is NOT one card or design that I’ve created WITHOUT a mistake! LOL!

Our second cards…

Again, keeping things simple. Some more coloring with Copic markers, a little ink blending, dies cutting, and layering. Another quick and easy card, right?!…

Sometimes I get really excited about projects, and the ideas just flow! For example, for this Coffee Date I had over 10 ideas! LOL! I knew I had to keep my designs to a minimum… so for my second card I wanted to showcase my love for the Paper Smooches Hand die.

SAVfact: I loooooooove this die! I will use it every chance I get!

This time I was inspired by a graphic of a coffee mug encouraging the person. I pulled out my hand die to create a hand holding a coffee mug—- ok. I know! This mug is way too small for this hand. I think that makes it more whimsical… and maybe it’s not coffee in the mug but espresso!? LOL Either way, I really like how this card turned out!

I love flipping my dies- this means instead of a “right hand” I flipped the hand image to make it “left”; I also flipped the speech bubbles. The only issue with flipping the images is that you might see crinkles or indents in my paper from the die cutting machine. Just another mistake but this time I’m embracing it!

I hope you are inspired by my creations today! I will be sharing even MORE cards (and maybe some photos of my dog) on my IG page HERE. I’d love for you to stop by and check out all of my designs!!!

Thank you for joining me on my Coffee Date with Shelly! I’ve had a ton of fun! MORE to come soon!
Be blessed ❤
HUGS- Savannah

Thank you, Dania!! I know Kim did have some sets that came out for a bit but are no longer available. I’m not sure if she’ll be doing more or not…I only know she created the new PS digital image that Savannah has on her blog. 😉
