Hey it’s Amy and I’m so excited to be collaborating with Erika Post of Catherine Pooler Designs. Unfortunately, my household has been hit hard with Covid so I wasn’t able to design anything for today’s post. I’ll make up for it as soon as I feel better.
Hello crafty friends! Erika here from
@createncoffee joining in with my friend Amy for a fun Color Combo Challenge! As the Director of Product Development at Catherine Pooler Designs, I am all about color. It’s one of my favorite parts of the job to help develop our ink line and pulling together color combos for our patterned papers. For this challenge, Amy and I are using the New Spa Ink Colors- With an Olive and On the Lake, along with Tranquil for a pretty, wintery analogous look.

I grabbed my Holiday Mug Shots Stamp Set (obsessed) and stamped and clear embossed the line art images. I colored them with blender pens and my inks to make sure everything matched just right! I added my “coffee” in both with a little touch of Over Coffee Ink. Once they were die cut, I was ready to create backgrounds to showcase my mugs!
For my snowman card, I wanted to have an ink blended piece. I used my three colors to blend an ombre like effect. I decided to cut out the Folk Star Slimline Cover Plate and used the frame die from my Notecard Frame and Tags Dies to “convert” this slimline die into a A2 sized layer. I trimmed my ink blended piece down and glued the layers together. I just love how the pattern pops with the color behind.

I used the Double Duty Circle Dies to make a focal point anchor and trimmed off a piece of it. I stamped and die cut the little snowflake stars from the Holiday Mug shots and a couple of gingerbread men cookies too!
I swinked a piece of scrap paper with With an Olive Ink and then stamped and white embossed my sentiment. Using the Sentiment Banner Dies, I cut out the sentiment strip. I clustered everything around my circle cut out and adhered them with glue and foam tape. I added a little “steam” stamped piece.
When I went to finish up, I wanted to add a pop more color, so I swinked the edges of a layer with Tranquil and glued it all together.

For my second card, I wanted to have some fun with mixing techniques! First I cut a piece of paper with the Angled Strips Cover Plate Die. I took the three center strips out and swiped each of them with ink. I grabbed the little snowflake star stamp and added some in With an Olive over the With an Olive Strip and some in On the Lake on the On the Lake strip! I then flicked white gold Gansai Tambi watercolor over all the pieces. I adhered them to the card base. I cut the center of the panel out with one of the Scallop & Dots Die layers and popped that up on the card base with foam tape. I like that detail this adds!
Then I finished off the card like the first by arranging and embellishing my mugs, sentiments and pieces! They look cute together but are both still very different cards and techniques! Ta-na!
I hope you are inspired to create a winter card with this color combo and don’t forget your piping hot drinks!!
