Our September Guest is back with us, Jennifer K!

For my second Coffee Loving Cardmakers guest post, I’ve got more than one card to share. Today I’m featuring one of my favorite Riley and Company stamps for a coffee theme card, Midge with Coffee. She has the best expression and of course she is perfectly posed with a cup of coffee.
“Oh Midge, you will have me in stitches after pairing your fun image with these silly, snarky sentiments from Tim Holtz Ideaology.” Oh, I’ve got to admit the sentiments I am using here are pretty much autobiographical. Since the snarky sentiments had me in stitches, why not add some actual stitching on my cards?
I started with some classic sewing using one of the decorative stitches programmed on my computerized home sewing machine. A small leaf pattern coordinated pretty well with some Lawn Fawn stitched leaves to help give this first card a fall vibe.

I practiced on some scraps first to audition the thread color & stitch pattern. It helped to see the direction the stitches were headed so I was confident about where to sew once the final card layer was used with the machine.
Don’t worry about your stitches coming undone if you leave long thread tails you can knot & secure with some adhesive behind another element on the front or wrapped behind to the back of the card layer.
Of course there’s no need to use a needle and thread with so many stitch patterned dies to choose from out there. I love many brands & styles of stitched dies and have a hard time resisting adding more to my collection.

I used some Lawn Fawn Just Stitching Double Circles dies on the water colored background of my second card. These are great additions to your supplies. Add the stitching to another circle die cut or add the stitch texture on your card panel. I did both on this card.
I haven’t yet separated all the dies so my double stitched circles are still connected which “doubles” the double stitching!

I could not choose a favorite between these. Do you have a favorite? On one hand stitched dies are easy to use & likely I will use more often than my sewing machine. But real thread texture is very satisfying to use.
So happy to share these with you. Thanks so much for checking these out.

Until next time, be like Midge, keep smiling and drinking coffee!
