Happy Sunday! We have our long term Guest Designer back with us, Carrie!
As a paper crafter, I have discovered that there is inspiration everywhere. Each time I walk in
the store, look through a book or visit my favorite coffee place, I discover something new.
Today’s project was inspired by a block pattern scrapbook sketch that triggered a memory of a quilt my grandmother made.

She was a coffee lover, too, and enjoyed bright colors and patterns. Vivid prints are a challenge for me, but as I thought of her and all the beautiful colors she loved, I decided to stretch myself a little with some delightful patterns from Echo Park.
Not only did I create the block pattern that mimics a quilt, but I also added a pleated border to
represent the ruffles she added to the edges of her blankets.

To make the pleated border, score a 12-inch strip at 1”, 1.25”, 2”, 2.25”, 3”, 3.25”, 4”, 4.25”, and so on. Fold the first score back and forth to form the box pleats. If you are a visual learner, I have created a process video that shows how to make the pleats.
After adding all the brightly colored blocks and borders, I added a few coffee elements.

On the scalloped border, I stamped some pink coffee beans using an image from Trinity
Stamps. I added a bright yellow coffee cup atop a scallop circle tag and a sweet little sentiment.
Even though this card is a bit outside my comfort zone with the bright colors and patterns, it
reminds me so much of my coffee-loving grandmother. The pleated border, stitching, and sweet coffee images brought everything together.
I hope this project inspired you to look for inspiration everywhere. I can’t wait to see what you
create!
