Welcome back to Coffee Break Monday with Mary. I hope you are having a good Monday.

I colored the background for this card back in August during the #thedailymarker30day coloring challenge. I started by coloring the green cups and mugs. I knew I wanted to add in another color, but I wasn’t sure what color I should choose. I got out my trusty color wheel and looked for the complimentary color. My wheel told me that red-violet was the compliment to green-yellow. This color combination is a step out of my comfort zone…but that is what the coloring challenge is all about! I was really pleased with the end result.

Do you use a color wheel? I’ve been using mine quite a bit. I would highly recommend getting one. They are a very inexpensive tool and are extremely helpful when designing cards. I have learned that if I am wanting more contrast, I might want to go with a split complementary (one key color plus colors on either side of its complement) or triad color combination (three colors equally spaced from each other on the color wheel) which are really easy to figure out using a color wheel.

Here are the supplies I used to create my card:
-Unity’s Hot Mess stamp
-Newton’s Nook Love Cafe stamp set for the sentiment
-Momento Tuxedo Black Ink, Copic Markers and a touch of Ranger Glossy Accents
I hope my colorful coffee card has inspired you to try something outside your comfort zone. Thanks for stopping by!
