Guest Designer – February 26

A final project from Claire for the month of February.  Please make sure to check out the end of her post for a look back at all of her wonderful projects that she shared with us!

Hello everyone!

I’m so excited to share my final card with you for my month as guest designer! I am so grateful to Amy and the rest of the Coffee Loving Card Makers team! I had such a great time creating my caffeinated cards this month, and I hope you enjoyed coming along for the ride!

For my final card, I wanted to create a scene using the “Newton Loves Coffee” stamp set from Newton’s Nook Designs. I’ve been eyeing this set for a long time, but only recently got my hands on it, and I love it even more than I thought I would!

To start my card, I cut a piece of Hammermill 110# white cardstock down to 4.25 x 5.5 inches. I knew I was going to do quite a bit of masking, so before I started stamping on my panel, I stamped the peeking cat, the cat with the French press, and some of the coffee cup images onto a piece of masking paper. I fussy cut those images out and then moved on to stamping on my panel.

Scene building and creating depth are still rather new to me, but there are a few basic rules. The first is the images that you want to be in the front need to be stamped first. This might sound confusing, but the reason for doing this is to ensure you see the entirety of the image in the end. If something is in the foreground and in front of everything else, you will see all of that image. So, I started by stamping both of my cats because I wanted them to be the main part of my scene. After I stamped the cats, I masked them with my cut masks and began to stamp the rest of my coffee cups.

After I was done with all my stamping, I did my Copic coloring. Just a warning, I used a lot of markers, so get ready for a long list!

From darkest to lightest –

Black Cat: 100, W8, W6, W3, W2
Orange Cat: E99, YR27, YR24, YR21, YR31
Counter/Table: E44, E43, E42, E00, E000
Orange Mug: YR09, YR07, YR04, YR12, YR21, YR31
Teal Mug: BG45, BG32, BG11, BG10
French Press: C5, C3, C1, B00, B0000
Pink Mug: R59, RV66, RV55, RV25, RV23, RV21
Travel Mug: E15, E13, E11, C3, C1, C00
Green Mug: G99, G94, G24, G43, G00

Yes, if you are counting that is 43 markers. Yes, that is absolutely ridiculous. Please do not feel like you have to use that many – I’m just extra.

After my coloring, I was pretty much done! I just added some sparkle using my Nuvo Aqua Shimmer pen, and put my panel on a card base.

Thank you for joining me this month! I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did!

Thanks so much Claire!  We loved all your projects this month:
