Hello Coffee Lovers!!
It’s time for Brew & Craft Your Stash!! Challenge #72 in the 75 Creative Card Challenges Magazine by Paper Crafts 2013!! Grab your drink of choice and get ready for some great crafty ideas!!!
Challenge #72 – Use Metal. Two of the cards use metal sheets and die-cut shapes to add metal elements to their card. One used real pennies, 7 of them because the 7th Anniversary is copper! The last card uses a metal buckle with a ribbon on the card.
So I have a sheet or two of metal, but do you think I could find them?? I searched all over, but I don’t know where they got to!! In my search, I found some metallic cardstock and I decided to use that instead since I couldn’t find the darn metal sheets!
I used a copper-like metallic sheet with a Crafter’s Companion embossing folder. After embossing it I trimmed the panel down a little. I set this aside to create my background, I wanted to use warm colors, so I picked out colors to use in my stamping and then came across some ink sprays in brown, red and orange, that matching my ink colors.
So I trimmed some watercolor card stock to fit an A2 card base. Then I used the Sandra Dee Sepia ink spray from Lindy’s Gang and spritzed the panel. I sped up the drying with a heat gun and then use Rizzo’s Rowdy Red and Tears on My Pillow Tangerine, and splattered the red and orange rather than spritz. Spritzing creates more of a widespread color, and to get splatters, I unscrew the bottle and shake the hose from the bottle top.
While my background splatters dried, I pulled out Catherine Poolers Pumpkin Season stamp set. I stamped the Thermus, coffee cup, and soup bowl. The coffee cup has a pumpkin on it, but I wasn’t making a fall card, so I pulled out a stamp set that I’ve been using for my ink swatching that has a small little square that fits perfectly over the pumpkin. I used the same ink and it filled in the pumpkin nicely! Next, I fussy cut out each image.
For a sentiment I used The Greetery’s Sentiment Suite Basics die to cut the tiny banner and then stamped the Feel Better sentiment. I punched a tiny hole to make it a tag and with some orange twine I happened to find on my desk I wrapped it around the Thermus.
When the background was dry I adhered it to a white card base and then added the embossed panel. Last I added the stamped images with foam tape.
Thanks so much for stopping by! I hope this inspires you to break out your metal sheets or if you don’t have any, maybe you have metallic cardstock to use instead!
Dana
