Guest Designer – October 30

It’s the end of October and sadly our October Guestie Mary Reiner’s final project post.  Mary’s cards this month have been amazing and we’ve been so lucky to have her share her talent with us!!  Wait til you see her incredible card for this week…

Happy Halloween Eve!

Do you decorate for Halloween? I love to decorate my porch for Halloween. This year, we decided to go with a black cat theme. The school I work at had a Mumkin sale and I ordered the black cat container for my mum. It looks so cute on my porch with our pumpkins and corn shocks! My daughter made a really sweet sign for our door that reads “Black Cats Welcome”. It’s so adorable when our own black kitty, Mr. Darcy, is looking out the front door! He completes our theme perfectly.

Since it’s the day before Halloween, I really wanted to make a Halloween/coffee themed card. I stepped out of my comfort zone and decided to create a (mostly) one layer card.

To start, I stamped the witch’s hat from Tim Holtz’s “Crazy Things” stamp set. Then I stamped it again on GinaK’s “Masking Magic” and cut out my mask and temporarily adhered it in place. Next, I stamped the cat image from Tim Holtz’s “Snarky Cats” stamp set and again stamped and cut a mask for it. I left the masks in place in order to create my background. I blended Distress Oxides in the following colors: Speckled Egg, Faded Jeans, and Black Soot. I spritzed the background with some water as well as some Lawn Fawn Liquid Stardust. I removed my masks and colored my images with Copic Markers and added Glossy Accents to the eyes. Next, I stamped the sentiment from Rubbernecker’s “Wicked” stamp and cut a speech bubble. I adhered the speech bubble to some craft foam to pop it up a bit. On a separate piece of white paper, I stamped a small coffee cup from Concord & 9th’s “Coffee Turnabout” set. Then, I fussy cut it and cut a slit around the hand of my cat so he could “hold” his cup. Lastly, I die cut some stars out of matte, silver paper to finish my card.

I can’t believe this month is coming to an end. I hope you have enjoyed my cards. It has been wicked fun sharing them here!
