Guest Designer – October 2

Hey, Coffee Lovin’ Fans!  We’re so excited to have Mary Reiner join us as our October Guest Designer!!  You’re gonna love the beautiful creations she will be sharing each Friday in October!  Let’s see what she has brewing today…

I am so excited to have the opportunity to be the guest designer this month for The Coffee Loving Cardmakers Blog! I really enjoy making coffee themed cards and it will be fun to share them with you.

I have to be honest, my first coffee love was the Mocha Frappuccino from Starbucks. My husband would always say that I liked frou-frou coffee! I do love those, but they get kinda pricey, so I decided to try to make my own version at home.

I came across International Delight Mocha Iced Coffee at the grocery store and decided to give it a try. I really like the mocha flavor but it also comes in several other tempting flavors.

To make my coffee drink, I blend one cup crushed ice with one cup Mocha Iced coffee. Blend until it gets a nice frothy consistency. It turned out to be a great option for me! If you like frappuccinos, you should give this a try.

My card was inspired by today’s attempt at making my frappuccino coffee drink. I measured out everything and was really looking forward to my yummy drink. I filled the blender and hit the switch….nothing. I tried again and it still wouldn’t blend.  Unfortunately, my blender seems to have died. So that is why my card is titled “Oh Frap”!

To create my card, I used the My Favorite Things Mini Cafe All Day dies and cut a coffee cup and a Frappuccino cup out of Hammermill 110# white cardstock. To add color and dimension to my die cuts, I blended with some Distress Inks in the colors Ground Espresso and Worn Lipstick. I also cut out the Frappuccino cup and lid out of some white vellum to create the look of a plastic cup.  Next, I heat embossed the “Oh, Frap!” sentiment from the MFT Cup of Love stamps using Brutus Monroe Alabaster embossing powder. For my background, I mixed Distress Oxide in Barn Door and Ground Espresso with a little bit of water and splattered it on my card with a paint brush. Then, I added a few heart sprinkles from Trinity Stamps.

I am looking forward to sharing more coffee cards with you (and also hoping for a new blender)!

It’s a cute card. Naturally the blender is one of those items where you have to have everything in it before you flip the switch. I’m sure a LOT of people would have been saying, “Oh Frap” as well.
