Challenge #56 – Use the Negative of a Die Cut. All the cards in the magazine used negative die cuts in their card, flowers, butterflies, sentiment and graphic shapes. Some used pattern papers in the negative or solid colors!!
As I started going to through my coffee stash I knew I wanted to use different pattern papers in my negative die cuts. I decided to use STAMPlorations Tag O’ Coffee die set, specifically the coffee cup with a straw. With the pattern paper I planned on using, I was looking to make a fun summery card!!
I started with a panel of white card stock. I used a pencil and ruler to plan where to place the die, so hopefully they would end up straight. Once I cut them I decided to make a second card with the actual die cuts, otherwise they just end up in my left over pile, never to see the day of light again!!! 🙂
I used For the Love of Summer paper collection from Photo Play Paper. Picked out several papers, trimming them so they just fit behind the cups before adhering them with liquid adhesive. From the collection pack I picked a sticker sentiment, along with flip flops and a blue arrow. I added those with foam tape. Then I added the panel to a white card base.
For my second card I cut the fun striped pattern paper with a stitched rectangle. I picked out another sentiment sticker adding it to the panel with foam tape, then adding the cut cups above and below the sentiment.
Next, I added the panel to a black card base. Last I decided both cards needed a little sparkle and added Trinity Stamps Rock Candy sequins.
Thanks so much for stopping by!! I hope this encourages you to take another look at your dies and consider using the negative (and the actual die cut, too, for a second card!!)
Dana
