Guest Designer – July 29

Today we’re super excited to have Erika Post as our Guest Designer!

Hello fellow coffee addicts!  Dark roast, with a splash of milk or full on latte…what’s your pleasure?  My name is Erika Post from @createncoffee and I am thrilled to be guesting here on the Coffee Loving Cardmakers site.  As you can see from my Insta handle, I am a big fan of the caffeinated elixir and because of that, love using coffee related stamps!

I am the Creative Manager over at Catherine Pooler Designs so I do get excited to influence the creation of a coffee focused stamp set but today I am mixing in a fun die from MFT that I used on some Christmas Cards a few years back with my CPD stash of products.

I wanted to make a slimline card for you guys since they seem to be all the rage at the mo and to be honest, I am enjoying playing with the layouts on a different size of card base.  I also love creating little “windows” on these cards so I grabbed my basic Circle Dies and chose one that would fit just right for my three cut outs.

I found a stash of pieces I cut from the MFT Hot Cocoa Cups Die-namics set and like these because there are two drink cup with handles facing the opposite direction.  These three look like they may have been cut from some old SIU Natural White Paper.

Now comes the fun part!  Using a direct to paper technique and my three shades of brown CP Inks, I cut out the coffee die to create my black to very milky coffees.  I then grabbed a paint brush and my ink refills in It’s a Girl, Be Mine, and Icing on the Cake.  I washed the ink across the cups in an ombre effect and then flecked them with ink.  This is my favorite pottery glazing look on my actual coffee cups at home (I have quite a collection!)

I then backed my cut out “windows” on my card layer with a piece of paper from the Summer Pick-n-Mix pack from CPD.  I love the green and the pops of pinks in the centers of the flowers inspired the pink mugs.

The sentiment is from the Magnetic Messages set which I also stamped in Icing on the cake and then cut out.  I glued everything together toggling the cups a bit and tucking them in slightly.  I also popped up parts with some foam tape to add some movement and dimension.

To finish it off, I cut out a few of the steam pieces from the MFT dies and a dollop of cream for the latte.  I adhered this lovely layer onto the card base and viola!  You can decide if the message “hello my lovely friend” is directed at the card recipient or the gorgeous brews!

Thanks for letting me share my creation with you!  Please drop me a comment below and let me know what on my card may inspire your next make.

Erika LOVE the card and how you painted the ombré cups. I’d probably have to choose the latte since I’m currently drinking mine, LOL. Super card.
