Hello Coffee Lovers and Happy Valentine’s Day!!
It’s time for a new Brew & Craft Your Stash!! Challenge #15 in the 75 Creative Card Challenges Magazine by Paper Crafts 2013!! Grab your drink of choice and get ready for some great crafty ideas!!!
Challenge #15 – Use Crepe Paper. Two cards use crepe paper to create some ruffles, one at the end of the tag and the other layers 3 different colored ruffles. Another card adheres strips of crepe paper to cover the card base and the last card creates pleats with the crepe paper.
I don’t have any crepe paper and I didn’t want to go buy a roll just to use it once. So instead I made my own faux crepe paper! I love how it turned out, too!! I started with….. white tissue paper!!!
To make my faux crepe paper I cut my 3 ply white tissue paper into three strips. Then I used Altenew inks to color them. I just added the ink directly from the ink pad to the paper and smearing it down the strip. I had three groups of strips, each with 3 strips. The ink is dye ink so it dries fast, I’m sure you could use just about any kind of ink, too!
Next, I crumbled up each group, then carefully flattening them out again. To adhere each group of three, I added a small line of liquid adhesive to the top of a strip and added the second strip. Repeat for the 3rd strip. I have a 12 x 2 clear block that I laid on top to hold the 3 layers together while the glue was drying. I did this for each of my groups.
Then I just used scissors to make the fringe and my faux crepe paper was ready to use!! I decided to use them to dress up some basic heart dies. I cut two from watercolor card stock, since the card stock is thicker and hold up the fringe better. I added the fringe in layers on the watercolor card stock, then used the dies to cut the hearts.
I pulled out Hero Arts Food Puns and stamped the latte, doughnut and waffle. Then I used my Spectrum Noir Tri-Blend Markers to color the images, then fussy cut them out.
I stamped the I love You a Latte on a strip of card stock and then notched the ends. Next, I added the hearts to a white card base and then the images and sentiment. Last I rounded the corners.
Thanks for stopping by! I hope this inspires you to either use your crepe paper in a new way or to make your own!!
