Caffeine Fueled Paper Play – Newton’s Nook

Welcome to another Caffeine Fueled Paper Play!  Today I’m playing along with the Inky Paws Challenge #82 over at Newton’s Nook!  This time around it’s a color challenge and here’s the Inspiration Photo:

Awesome color palette, right??  And here’s how I was inspired:

So I originally had a different stamp set in mind that I wanted to use, but when I ran across this Halloween set, Newton’s Boo-tiful Night, that I hadn’t inked up yet, I knew I had to use it!  It wasn’t a coffee set though so… how to make it a coffee card?  Think, think, think!  While I was thinking, I started on my ink blended background… I thought an orange and purple sky would be cool.  Once I had the colors as saturated as I wanted them, I sprinkled it with water and blotted it and then I sprayed some Shimmer Spray over the entire background and let it dry.

As I was looking at the stamp set… my eyes landed on the purr-fect sentiment.. well… almost.  Once I decided on that, my image was obvious… Newton as a witch flying on his broom!  And of course since he’d be flying, I needed to create a landscape for him to fly over!  I cut all of the landscape pieces in black because… well… it’s night… close to dawn I think… but also so Newton would stand out.  To build this scene I used the fence from the Outdoor Landscape 2 Dies from CDD, the tree from the CDD Scenery Dies, and the Homescape Dies from Sugar Pea Designs.  Then I stamped, colored and cut out the images and created my scene, including stamping the bat from the set a couple times for a little extra something.  Now for the sentiment!

The actual sentiment on the Boo-tiful set reads “Witch way to the Candy”, so I masked the word candy with some thin washi tape before inking up the stamp with Versamark…removed the tape and stamped the sentiment on my banner  and embossed it in white.  Then stamped and embossed a coffee sentiment from one of my other Newton sets on black and fussy cut just the word coffee.  I love the way it came out… and Newton’s little witch hat was the perfect way to finish it off!  A few sequins sprinkled around and it was done!

So, I figure Newton’s been flying around all night and at this point, he’s gonna soon need another cup of coffee!

This challenge runs through Friday, October 12th.   I hope you’ll create something using this color palette and some fun Newton’s Nook products and play along!  You’re playing for a $20 store credit!!  Check out all of the rules in the Challenge Post here and the Challenge Rules Page here!

And!  Scrapbook.com is having a challenge for World Cardmaking Day that runs through October 29th and I’m playing along with that also!  You can check that out here!
