Hello!! Dana here with a new Brew & Craft Your Stash!! Get some coffee and tea and sit back for some great Journaling Card ideas! If this is the first time you are seeing my feature or need a refresher, click here for my very first post, it gives a little background explanation of my feature!!
We are in the Creating with Product section of Paper Crafting Tips & Tricks Magazine. We have gone through the other sections but there are still a few more techniques left in Creating with Product section. We are looking at Journaling Cards and Kalyn Kepner has some great ideas for using them!!
- Use a die cut to make a frame of the card
- Create accent by cutting and punching out different sections
- Print unique sentiments on the journal cards
- Fussy cut elements of journal cards, layer them and other embellishments
- Use the journal card as the focal point, stamp on or around it
- Layer stamps over the journal card for unique backgrounds
I decided to keep it simple this time and do some stamping directly on the Journaling Card. If I find any on clearance I pick them because they help me make quick cards, especially card sets as there is usually multiples of the journal cards in the sets. The kit I’m using today is from We R Memory Keepers Hip Hip Hooray.
The card I picked out was bigger than a card base, I just trimmed it down and rounded the corners. Then I used Hero Arts Mouse Tea Party Set and stamped the mouse holding the cup and created a wreath with the flowers, butterflies, and leaves. I used Papertrey Ink’s Soft Stone ink to stamp them, it’s a very light grey.
From the collection, I found an almost blank journal card so I could stamp the mouse, flowers, and butterflies again. I used my Spectrum Noir ColourBlend pencils to color everything up. Then I fussy cut out the ones from the second card, I did this so the paper I colored would match with the journal card I was using on the card.
I used foam tape to adhere the mouse and a flower and two butterflies to fill in the wreath. In the bottom left corner, I stamped the sentiment You’re Just My Cup of Tea. Then I added just a few pearls to finish off the journal card.
From Crate Paper Wonder pad I picked out a red pattern to match the red on the journal card. I added it to a white card base and then added the journal card. Last I rounded the all the edges.
If you have journal cards in your stash I hope this helps you see them in a new light! Or maybe you’ll get lucky and find some on clearance to use in the future!
Dana
