Hello Coffee Lovers!! Dana here with a new installment of Brew & Craft Your Stash!! We are looking at crafty ideas for Doilies! If this is the first time you are seeing my features or need a refresher, click here for my very first post, it gives a little background explanation of my feature!!
We are in the Creating with Product section looking in Paper Crafting Tips & Tricks 2012 magazine. Anabelle O’Malley has some great ideas for using doilies!! If you don’t have doilies you can make your own, you probably made paper snowflakes, well do that but round the outside of the ‘snowflake’!!
- Cut the doily to decorate the corners
- Fold the doily to make flower
- Cut or punch shapes from to create a banner
- Fancy fold the doily to make a pocket, fill with a treat or embellishments!
- Stamp your doily for a unique pattern paper
- Stitch a letter or image for a cool focal point!!
For my card I decided to do a little watercolor, so I started with Distress Markers Lucky Clover, Chipped Sapphire, Seedless Preserves scribbling them on an acetate sheet. I added a spritz of water and then pressed it to a piece of watercolor cardstock, I did this a few more times.
While that was drying, I cut another piece of watercolor cardstock and placed a Crafter’s Workshop stencil on top, securing it with washi tape. With Gathered Twigs and some water, I painted the diamond shapes. To help keep the watercolor in the shapes I tried to keep away from the edges of the shapes.
Next, I used a small doily die to cut the watercolor pieces, I actually cut a bunch but only ended up using three on my card. I don’t know where I got the doily die from but you can find lots of options on Simon Says Stamp!
Then I pulled out Reverse Confetti’s Caffeinated Cups & For the Love of Latte and stamped the small cup on watercolor cardstock. With Gathered Twigs I colored the inside swirl stamp, spritz it and stamped it on the cup. I did basically the same thing for the cup part but with Lucky Clover, Chipped Sapphire, Seedless Preserves. The colors really mixed together, but I really like how it turned out!! When it was dry I stamped the Coffee sentiment in brown ink.
I cut a strip of brown cardstock and stamped and embossed A Hug In A Mug. I adhered three doilies across the card over the diamond pattern, then added the strip with foam tape and last the coffee cup. I also lightly bent the doilies up a little to add some texture.
Thanks so much for stopping by!! I hope this inspires you to get out (or make your own) doily and create with it!!
Dana
