Hello!! I hope you all had or still having a wonderful Holiday!! Today I have a new installment of Brew & Craft Your Stash and we are looking at great ideas for Spray Mists! If this is the first time you are seeing my feature or need a refresher, click here for my very first post, it gives a little background explanation of my feature!!

We are looking at Paper Crafting Tips & Tricks a 2012 magazine by PaperCrafts, in the Stamping Techniques section. Karen Baker has some great ideas for using Spray Mists!

  • Mix mists with white paint to create custom paint colors
  • Splatter mist and outline with a marker for a unique pattern
  • Use Ink Mists on lace and ribbon for custom colors that will match your project
  • Use back side of a stamp as a mask, then flip stamp and stamp
  • Spray Ink and water mists on watercolor cardstock to create custom colored paper
  • Use multiple color spray’s on cardstock strips to make a custom stripe background.

I used a box to keep the spray ink contained, but I really end up really soaking the fabric, so I had a lot of ink in the box. Which of course I had a couple drips on the carpet, so be careful!! 🙂 To get the stripes I cut some strips of scrap paper and laid them on the fabric so I would only mist up a small part of the fabric. As the strips got saturated with the ink sprays I cut new ones to use.

After all the strips where inked I placed the fabric on some plastic to dry. I really love how the different colors blended a little and as I removed the stripes I got a couple drips on the fabric. I like the tie-dye-ish look the fabric has!

I let the fabric dry overnight as I knew I was going to try to stamp directly on the fabric. So the next day I used my MISTI to stamp the Tim Holtz/Sizzix Coffee Time set. I used watermark ink and stamped it many, many times.

Then I added white embossing powder! Yes, was going to try to heat emboss on fabric!! And it turned out pretty good!! You don’t get a nice bump from the embossing because of it kind of melts into the fabric, but it really works!!

After embossing I need to adhere the fabric to a panel, double sided tape doesn’t hold it forever, so I used it to at least keep it in place. But to really secure it I stitched some Xs with twine. For a sentiment, I stamped the Hello Friend and used the matching die to cut it out. I added the sentiment and a few enamel and cork dots. Last I adhered the panel to a white card base with foam tape.

Thanks for stopping by! If you have some Spray Mists, I hope this gives you some great ideas for using it!!
