We are circling back to the Creating with Product section of Paper Crafting Tips & Techniques 2012 magazine. Chipboard is the product we are focusing on today, Julia Stainton has some great ideas in the magazine! I’m sure you have some chipboard in your stash, so read on!!

  • Stamp and ink on the chipboard for a unique embellishment
  • Layer the chipboard
  • Adhere other embellishments to the chipboard, like pins, buttons, paper flowers
  • Wrap chipboard with ribbon, fabric, yarn, twine
  • Cover the chipboard with pattern paper
  • Paint chipboard

I bought only one package of chipboard shapes with me to school, so last week during Thanksgiving break I was at a craft store and picked up a chipboard heart. Figured I would do something with it for my project today! And ….. are you sitting down???? …… I did NOT make a card!!! Gasp!!! I thought I would make an ornament and I love how it turned out!!

I started with two pink inks, a light and dark and I applied the light all over the heart. The chipboard is grey and that kind of comes through the ink, but if you don’t like that look, cover the chipboard with cardstock first! I used the darker color around the edge, blending it into the lighter color. I also inked the edge of the thick chipboard heart.

Since I plan to put this on my tree, I left the back blank. If it was a gift I would either ink it too or add some cardstock. To help spruce up the heart I decided to use a stencil and texture paste. I used My Favorite Things Scattered Bar stencil with Tim Holtz Texture Paste.

While that was drying I stamped the bear with the coffee cup from My Favorite Things Cool Days stamp set and used my Spectrum Noir markers to color it up. I used: AP2, AP4, BP6, BP7, IG1, IG3, PP1, Blender.

On a strip of cardstock, I stamped Warm Wishes and then notched one end. When I the paste was dry I adhered the bear and sentiment. Then I trimmed off the excess and added a few sequins. last I looped white ribbon to the back to make the heart chipboard an ornament.

Hopefully, this inspires you to look at your chipboard in a new way, whether it’s a card or an ornament!! Thanks for stopping by!

I love the stenciled, textured background.
It kind of looks like a sweater pattern.
