Okay, back to your regular programming. 🙂 Bonus Techniques is next in the Paper Crafting Tips & Techniques magazine looking to Get Funky with Fabric. Kim Kesti has some great ideas for using pattern and solid fabrics on your card or project.

  • Die cut fabric to create a custom embellishment
  • Make a tiny quilt to fit your card, add batting for added dimension
  • Gather fabric to create a flower
  • Add texture by fraying fabric edges
  • Cut and layer fabric to create a motif
  • Tear strips of fabric to use as ribbon
  • Dye fabric for a unique background
  • Gather a strip of fabric into a ruffle
  • Use fabric to cover metal buttons for a custom and unique look

For my card, I pulled out some basic white muslin like fabric from my stash. I decided to do some watercoloring on my fabric. I’m sure this isn’t new, but if you haven’t tried it, give it a try. I started with a piece of fabric that was just bigger than a card base. Then I used some Prime Watercolors to add color. Adding water spreads and dilutes the color a bit too and of course, you saturate the fabric and the mat below it.

I added two different colors and let it dry a little bit. While it was still damp I added splatters of the white and the darker brown I had, the splats kind of defused into the fabric. But as it dried you could see that it defused too much, so I did it again when it was dry and it worked much better, defusing but not disappearing.

After making sure everything was 100% dry I added the fabric to a sheet of double-sided adhesive, then die cut the two coffee cups from STAMPlorations Tag O’ Coffee die set. I cut them until I used up all the fabric.

Then I pulled out some pretty paper from Recollections pad called Boho Bohemian and added it to a card base. Then I added my fabric coffee stickers to the background. From a different pattern, I stamped the Java Great Day sentiment from Gina K Designs – Coffee Set.

I added the sentiment trip to the card with foam tape. Last I thought the card need just a touch more so I added a few sequins.

Thanks so much for stopping by! I hope this inspires you to try out fabrics in a new way! Oh, and don’t forget to stop by the STAMPlorations blog for some more inspiration, you might just see another coffee themed card by me 😉
