Hello!! Dana here with a new installment of Brew & Craft Your Stash!! Today I have some great ideas for using Canvas, Cork, and Burlap! If this is the first time you are seeing my feature or need a refresher, click here for my very first post, it gives a little background explanation on my feature!!

Today we are in the Creating with Product section of the Paper Crafting Tips & Tricks 2012 magazine. The product is Canvas, Cork, and Burlap! How fun!! Kimberly Crawford gives several ideas for using these great items!!

  • Stamp on the canvas fabric
  • Make a rolled flower from a strip of canvas
  • die cut some cork to make some cool textured embellishments
  • stamp and heat emboss on cork
  • Fray that burlap in cool one of a kind patterns
  • Use burlap to stamp a background

From my stash, I have some cork circles and I thought awesome I can do something with them!!!…….. Well…. it didn’t really turn out, it really looked awful and all I had left was one last cork circle. But I was determined to use the last piece, so no more experimenting for me!! From my limited fabric stash I picked out a natural looking evenweave (typically used with embroidery and cross stitch!) and thought this looks canvas enough to work!!  Canvas is more solid then evenweave so I couldn’t really stamp on it, so instead I did some stitching!w cork 2First I cut a piece so it was a little bit smaller than a card base and then slightly frayed the edges. With a big needle and twine, I stitched in diagonal lines across the fabric. But it was kind of loopy so to hold it all down and attach the fabric to a pattern paper panel I stitched some X’s mainly at the ends of my lines, making sure to also include the paper in my stitching.

I wanted to keep the cork simple since it was my last one so I just stamped the Oh Frappe in brown ink. My MISTI was handy so I could stamp it multiple times to get a nice dark sentiment!

I used the sentiment and images from Essentials by Ellen Oh Frappe stamp set. I stamped the cup on some pretty flower paper and the heart/circles on the same pattern I used with the background. I also stamped the coffee bean cluster on kraft along with another cup. I fussy cut out all the images and for the kraft cup I just cut out the top liquid part and adhered it to my flower cup.

I hope this inspires you to take a look at what cork, canvas or burlap items you might have and use them on a card!
