It’s time for another edition of Coffee Buzz! Today’s project features a mixed media canvas which begins by printing a digital image onto…..wait for it……tissue paper. I know there’s a lot of crafty stampers in this group and many of us have tried stamping on tissue paper but have you tried running your tissue paper through a printer? It can be done! Stick around for the details and some very interesting Coffee Buzz news. I’m talking, coffee and ramen. Don’t get squeamish yet!
So how does one print on tissue paper? Grab a piece of sturdy cardstock, some washi tape and a sheet of tissue paper. Cut a large enough piece of the tissue paper, to wrap the edges around the back of your 8.5″ x 11″ cardstock and seal the ends with washi tape. That’s it! I used my Canon Pixma to print this digital stamp from Graciellie Design, one of the super sponsors of our Fall Blog Hop. Using the Cup of Tea digital stamp set, I opened up Microsoft Word, added my images, resizing and inverting the smaller tea cup. Once I added my sentiment, I sized everything to fit a 6×6 inch print, as my canvas that I’ll be working with is the same size.
Once printed, I used my fine tipped scissors and cut the tissue paper around the printed image. I prepped my canvas with 2 layers of white gesso and allowed it to dry, before adding Mod Podge to my canvas. Next, I laid down my tissue paper and added more Mod Podge on top. Once dried, I added lots of stenciling with various products; Inka Gold, liquid pearls with glitter sprinkled, distress oxide ink and glued on some glittery fibers. My flowers were colored with Marvy Le Plume II brush markers with Stickles glitter glue added for sparkle.
A touch of lace with DoubleClick Skittles bubble embellishments, and Nuvo crystal drops scattered about, finish this off. I’m quite happy with how it turned out! Now, lets talk coffee and ramen! (Photo credit: Round K Coffee)
Before you flip out over the coffee/ramen combo, let me reassure you, these are not noodles. In fact, the faux noodles are actually sweet potato and chestnut puree mixed with almond paste and cinnamon which is then squeezed to look like Ramen noodles. This flavorful combo which also includes candied chestnuts and, ahem, bacon, is the brain child of Korean mastermind Ockhyeon Byeon, owner of Round K Coffee in New York City’s lower east side. You can read the entire article from Daily Coffee News, here. Check out the 1 minute video assembly of this brave concoction, as well. What do you think? Is this something you would try? I say, YES!
