Hello! We’re up to our seventh installment of our new feature…Design Team Q&A. We are interviewing the team throughout the summer so that you get to know them a little more personally. Today, it’s Helen Gullett’s turn! She blogs every other Thursday and her feature is called “Thursday Coffee Break”. On each biweekly post, Helen shares a card and introduces you to fun simple cardmaking techniques + inspirations, that you can do while taking a coffee break. In case you’ve missed it, we’ve interviewed Kathy Schweinfurth, Dana Warren, Laurel Seabrook, Dana Gong, Erin Thiem, and Kerry Urbatch. You can click on their names if you missed out on their interviews.
Tell us a little more about yourself!
Hello coffee-tea-cocoa loving friends… My name is Helen. I am an Indonesian and live in Ohio now. I am married to an amazing and supportive husband. We are blessed with 2 sweet daughters. Both of them are going to school this year. More crafting time for me 🙂
I am also a volunteer and a translator for women ministry and non-profit ministries, translating their Bible Study and ministry related materials from home.
When did you join the CLC Design Team?
Officially starting April 2016.
What is your favorite coffee/tea or cocoa card that you’ve designed?
Oh…it is hard to make a decision to pick which one is my favorite. I have several favorites and here’s one of them:
What is your favorite color/color combo?
Speaking of colors… I love all colors in these range of rainbow colors 😀
We would love a peek into your crafty space, tell us a bit about it!
I do not have a crafty room, I have a crafty corner 🙂 We have a half attic in our house. We divided it into 3 spaces. This corner is my crafty corner, the middle one is where the kids craft table and space is, and the other corner is my husband’s work corner.
Ok… you see those curtain? I called them emergency curtains! LOL! I do not know how to sew curtains yet, so I’ve hung them and secured them with clothes pins. 😀 😀 😀
I am bit control freak… I clean my corner every other week for sure.
My husband added the pegboard on both side of the wall last year. I now have extra storage space for my supplies and hang up essential tools. All things are pretty much at my reach since they’re close to where I sit and create 🙂
On this side, I have these 2 working tables. One table is for my Silhouette Cameo, stamp makers, die cutting machine, dies and embossing folders. There is also a small plastic drawer full of gems, rhinestones and etc. Inside the table drawers, I store stamping blocks, letterpress supplies, and punches.
On my work table, I have a self-healing mat (originally for sewing), and lots of coloring mediums and pens right in front of me 🙂 I recycled the tissue boxes and card boxes as markers/pens holders. For the Spectrum Noir Aqua markers, I picked up a very good deal on the trays at a local craft store. There are 2 desk organizers that I found at TJMaxx that I use to store my 2 MISTI tools, and all kinds of adhesives and glues.
There is also an iPad Holder that my husband found online that totally works very well with my kind of table. It has a clip and adjustable holder.
Behind me, I have another plastic drawer for card kits and scrapbook kits, where I can easily grab them to make projects when I want to. On top of it, I put the baskets of cards, die cuts, and scraps.
I store stamps in plastic boxes, baskets, and stacked drawers that I arrange by company. I also have a paper organizer shelf that I bought from a local craft store. It is super heavy with all the cardstock and papers. I think I will need another one for them.
On the floor you can see, there is a big basket full of my Bible Journaling stuff. I need another IKEA Cart for my Bible journaling supplies.
On the pegboard, I have basket of paints and markers for fabric, tools, and my place to put pretty mail and arts done by my daughters.
And in these 2 IKEA carts, I have all my inks, reinkers, stamping tools, embossing, and 6×6 paper pads in one cart, and in the other I store all mixed media books, pastes, mediums and tools. I can easily roll them whenever I need them close by me.
What are your ‘go-to’ crafty tools?
Pretty much all things that you see in my craft corner are my ‘go-to’ crafty tools 🙂 because I use them all the time.
I hope you all can enjoy this post to get to know Helen more. You can find more about her on Helen’s blog, and get connected with her on Facebook, Instagram, Google+, Twitter, Pinterest, and YouTube.
