Thursday Coffee Break: Monochromatic Shadowbox Card

Hello…Hello…Coffee-Tea-Cocoa Loving friends! Happy Thursday… Helen here again today. I hope you all have a wonderful week so far 🙂 My youngest daughter started her Kindergarten Camp this week and she was super excited. I, on the other hand, have mixed-feeling…happy and sad at the same time. My baby is not a baby anymore, she is growing up so fast. Well…let’s take a coffee break with me… Grab your favorite drink and let’s get crafting.

Today, I have a monochromatic shadowbox card that I created for the first time. My card is called Shadow Box card. I used the new coffee stamp collection from Joy Clair, called Christmas Coffee Clear Stamps.

For me layers and 3D look cards are intimidating, but I challenged myself to try more 3D look cards instead of flat, one layer, or CAS cards after I saw some fun fold cards at The Stamp Nation Forum. I also have a Pinterest board where I pin lots of cards techniques, tutorials and tips. If you like to check them out, you can go here.  You can find many tutorials on YouTube too.

First I cut out 2 – 4.25″ x 5.5″ white cardstock panels. On both panels, I scored at 1/5″ and 1″ on both sides. Fold on the scored lines like fan. Then I put some scor-pal tape on the outer folded side. But do not put them together yet…

Then I stamped the front panel with Memento Rich Cocoa ink. After that, I die cut the panel with the circle die in the middle. Put the front panel on top of the back panel, then trace the circle with pencil for guide where you will stamp your sentiment.

I stamped the sentiment from the same stamp set with same ink pad. Then I erased the pencil markings. Then I worked on the cup by stamping the cup image and steam on white cardstock with same ink pad. I colored the cup with watercolor pencils around the edge of the cup and using watercolor brush I pulled the color to fill in the cup. Also, I added some glitter using a Spectrum Sparkle Brush.

I cut the cup and steam with scissors and added them on the front panel with adhesive.  For one of the steam trails, I used an acrylic plastic strip so it looks like it is floating.

When it is flat, it is 4.25″ x 5.5″ card size  to fit inside the envelope. Even though it is a 3D shadow box card, it is still a mail-friendly card. No worry about being bulky at all.

That’s all about my card today 🙂 I hope you all are inspired to try a new technique today and share it with us. Thank you a latte for stopping by today. I hope you all have a fabulous day!

This is a wonderful sentiment, and I think the fold is fantastic. I am going to bookmark this for when I have some crafting time. Today was the first day of school. Wonderful, but so busy. Thank you for the opportunity to see a fun card until I have time to get out my own supplies. Praying your little one just loves kindergarten!
