Hiya!!
Dana here with a new installment of Brew & Craft Your Stash!! Are you getting your Summer cards linked up??? So much great inspiration linked up already, better get going if you haven’t or have more to do! Time is a tickin’!! Today I have a few ideas for Fussy Cutting so maybe this will help you with your Summer inspired card!! If this is the first time you are seeing my feature or need a refresher, click here for my first post, it gives a little background explanation on my feature!!!
We are leaving the Creating With Product section and moving on into Applying Techniques and next up is Fussy Cutting! I love paper piecing and also love fussy cutting! In the Paper Crafting Tips & Tricks magazine, Chan Vuong gives us several fussy cutting ideas!
- Fussy cut and paper piece stamped images
- Fussy cut out a stamped image
- Fussy cut different elements to create a scene
- Fussy cut sentiments, too!!
- Layer your fussy cutting to create elements, like flowers
- Fussy cut select areas of pattern paper
So for my card to be more summering but sometimes things just go off in their own directions regardless of what you want to do!!! My card is all about the fussy cutting!! I started with the coffee mug from Simon Says Stamp What’s Brewing many times from white cardstock and fussy cut them out. Then I came across a stamp set by Taylored Expressions, Dino-mite that I thought would look super cute paper pieced!
I stamped the dino’s on the mugs and then again on pattern paper. For the mugs, I decided I didn’t what white mugs so I used my Spectrum Noir markers to color the mugs and liquid brown. I used GG4 and EB7. I fussy cut the pattern paper dinos and adhered them onto the mugs.
On a white card base I added some pattern paper from the same pattern pad and then arranged the mugs and when I was happy with them I adhered them to the card with foam tape. Oh, I almost forgot !!! Before I adhered stuff together I used a black Distress Marker to color the edges, this is a must with fussy cutting!! The images look finished with black edges!!
I trimmed off any overhang and found a sentiment rectangle that I added to the card on top of the mugs with foam tape. As you can see I went a little more young with this, perfect for a little boy (or girl, though maybe with more feminine-ish pattern paper!). I figured their mugs would not be filled with coffee but I’m sure they are fans of tea or hot cholate or at the very least like to be like mom/dad with their how ‘coffee’ cup!! 🙂
Lot’s of different ways to fussy cut!! I hope this inspires you to get out your scissors (sharp ones work best!) and get to cutting!! 🙂
Thanks for stopping by!
Dana
