But as a recap, I am challenging myself to use my stash by with Paper Crafting Tips & Tricks, a Paper Crafts special issue magazine from 2012. Today I am moving to the Bonus Technique section and first up is Beautiful Borders.

You don’t need just your run of the mill border dies to make borders!! You can really make a border out of anything, crafty supplies or not!! Betsy Veldman has many ideas for creating your own border. My card today features more Waffle Flower stamps, I just got them in, so I had to use them!! Here the ideas Betsy came up with on creating borders for your paper crafting projects:

  • Create a circle from border stickers
  • Cut up fancy borders to create unique closures
  • Use punch borders as masks
  • Add to die cut borders with stamps
  • Create ruffles by layering borders
  • Use borders to create faux banners
  • Create banners by cutting up border shapes and adhering to twine
  • Create flowers with scalloped borders
  • Roll paper borders to create 3D flowers.

I have some border dies and punches but I didn’t bring them with me to school, and I have a few sticker sheets with borders, but they all seemed kind of tame. But, when I saw Waffle Flowers Stitched Cup of Tea stamp set, I knew I had to do some stamping to create a border!

I decided to use the cross stitch macaroon stamp, I figured they would fit around a card base nicely (I hoped anyway!). From white cardstock, I trimmed it to be about 1/4 inches smaller than a typical A2 card base. Then I used my Misti to stamp the macaroons around the edge of the panel. I used several different Memento Luxe Pigment Inks (colors are listed at the end of the post). For the filling, I used a different color.

My original plan was to stamp the sentiment and tea cup in the center, however, I didn’t like how it looked. With the paper trimmer, I cut out the center and instead I stamped the sentiment on a strip of white card stock, in gray ink. I used the Misti to stamp the tea cup in light gray and the saucer in a darker color. And then the heart in pink. On scrap paper, I stamped the two curly q’s and then fussy cut them out.

I found some pretty gray wood grain pattern paper that went well with my ‘gray’ theme I seemed to have going on!! LOL!! I added it to a white card base and then added foam tape to the back of my macaroon border. Before added it to my card I added my sentiment strip. I added the teacup with foam tape and lastly added the curly q’s above.

Now you have a few ideas for creating a border on your next papercraft project! Maybe you can whip one one before the end of the Spring Coffee Lover’s Blog Hop!

Thanks for stopping by!!
