Brew & Craft Your Stash – Adhesives

brew and craft with Dana

Hello, Coffee Loving Cardmakers!!

It’s Dana, here with my first post!! I want to introduce my feature: Brew & Craft Your Stash!! If you are a coffee, tea or hot chocolate person (or all of the above kind of person, lol) you probably have a stash of different kinds or flavors that you have waiting to be brewed! And if you are reading this you probably have a big craft stash too!! I hope my posts will help you use up both stashes!! So, go brew your drink of choice, sit back and read on for some ideas to use more of your crafty stash!!

The idea for this features came when I had to majorly downgrade my craft stash because I am currently living on campus at a university. I have my own room, so I have space for my crafty supplies but not a lot! As I cleaned and sorted I came across a PaperCrafts special issue from 2012, Paper Crafting Tips & Tricks.

The magazine has different sections including Creating with Product, Applying Techniques, Stamping Techniques, and Bonus Techniques. I thought it would be a great idea to work my way through the sections and challenging myself to use the limited supplies I now have available!! So my blog posts will feature some great coffee themed products and ways to use your stash in what I hope will be some unique ways!! I also challenge you to look at your supplies in different ways and use some of that stash!! And of course, as you create, brew up some coffee or tea while you’re at it!!

I’m starting with the Creating with Product section and the first one up is Adhesives! In the magazine, Teri Anderson has six examples using adhesive in more ways than just adhering paper together!

  • Shapes by die cutting foam tape
  • Faux masking tape by adhering fabric to double-sided adhesive
  • Tiles by adhering an adhesive sheet to a large stamped image and then trimming.
  • Heat Embossing foam dots
  • Heat Embossing double-sided tape
  • Adding glitter to foam squares

The heat embossing on foam dots really intrigued me! Not only do I have foam dots but I also have those clear glue dots and that got me thinking!! Especially with the glue dots, as I don’t really use them often! So I did an experiment to see what worked and what didn’t!

Well, as you can see both foam dots/squares and glue dots worked great! I really liked the look of the glue dots, so decided to use them on my card!!

w catch 1I started by trimming some cute wood and heart pattern paper from Kiss Kiss by Crate Paper. I applied the small and medium glue dots and then using Wow Embossing Powder (Metallic Gold Rush, Super Fine) on the glue dots and melted it with a heating tool.

Next, I stamped the cute little coffee cups from The Greeting Farm – Perk Up and added the cute smiley faces. I used my Spectrum Noir Markers to color them up: BT1, CG4, EB1, EB2, EB5, EB6, GB8, HB2, HB3, LG3, LG 5, LV3, IG1, IG2, IG4. With some sharp scissors, I fussy cut them both out.

w catch 11

I used My Favorite Things Blue Prints #13 double ended banner with some white card stock and stamped the Let’s Catch Up in black ink. Last, I added the coffee cups and sentiment banner with foam dots!

w catch 12Thanks so much for stopping by!! I hope this look at adhesives inspires you to look at what you have in your stash and use it!!
