Guest Designer – October 10

We’re so excited to welcome our Guest Designer – Carol McFarland!

Hello papercrafting friends! This is Carol McFarland and I’m so happy to be invited to share a couple of projects here at Coffee Loving Papercrafters. I’m a Southern California native and retired Spanish, ESOL and Literacy teacher. I inherited my love for crafts and sewing from my mother who was a maker. She always included me when making her projects.
Cardmaking is one of my favorite hobbies ever. I used to scrapbook for years and did a lot of cross stitch, sewing, quilting, and other fun crafts. Now I mostly make cards, tags and the occasional 3D projects to match my cards like mini albums, gift boxes and bags. I love to challenge myself to learn how to make something new that intrigues me. It’s how I named my blog and Instagram!

Since it is October, I combined two favorite things: cross stitch and cardmaking, with Halloween in mind. I used Lawn Fawn cross stitch patterns that pair with their Embroidery Hoop dies. These are quick little stitching projects that are so cute! Lawn Fawn has multiple patterns for all seasons and they are free on their website. I learned a trick from someone online for using the embroidery hoop die. By first spritzing water on both sides of the card stock before die cutting, the die cut will separate from the die more easily, as do the little die cut hole centers. I couldn’t stop at just one of these stitched cards, so here are two that I made this weekend during World Cardmaking Day for this Coffee Loving Papercrafters post.

This Lawn Fawn Coffee Cup Gift Card Holder die set gives you the ability to make a slot for a gift card or cash and also comes with dies for coffee beans and a heart to put on the cup sleeve. It is a new set to me and I can’t wait to make tags and gift card holders for Christmas for my coffee-loving friends.

It was fun to pick patterned papers and colors for the coffee cups and DMC embroidery thread. I used the Pink and Main Halloween Brew stamp set for the sentiments with an Altenew Obsidian black ink pad. Both patterned paper rectangles were die cut using Sugar Pea Designs Card Front Element Builder dies.

I have enjoyed sharing these cards with you and have more details about cross stitching on my blog Saw It. Had to make it. Big thanks to Amy for the invitation to share this month!
