Top It Off Tuesday with Kimberly : Yummy Santa Smug Mug

Happy Tuesday!

Today I am sharing a yummy smug mug of Santa! This stamp is one of three fabulous mugs in a series designed by Kris Lauren and made by Colorado Craft Company. The mug stamps are sold separately, however, I am so pleased to say that as of today, all of them – Santa, Reindeer, and Snowman mugs are all in stock at Scrapbook.com.

It really drives me wild when I see a fabulous card I’d love to CASE, or just buy a stamp from and it is retired, discontinued, and I cannot find it anywhere. Believe me, if I want it bad enough, I usually find it. Lol. That said, you can still get these for your very own and create some totally adorable cards or layouts, oversized tags or anything you like.

I made this on a larger scale to really focus on the image without crowding it close to the edge of a card. This card is all about layers, textures, and dimensions.

By taking a craft background and stamping a small image in a slightly darker tone of brown randomly all over – this adds interest and elevates the craft background to something more special.

It’s hard to see an additional layer I have added on this card unless you see it up close in person. I have glued a very light vellum paper with copper and gold flecks onto a white layer that I ran through a tree pattern embossing folder. The embossing folder is Stampin Up! Whimsical Woodlands. The added vellum adds a hint of luxury against a layer of red glitter foam.

I have also carefully scored the embossed layer all the way around for a lovely finished edge.

The image was colored in copic alcohol markers with adding a grey shaded shadow for maximum depth emphasis. Glossy accents was applied in a few select areas for a tactile effect. The candy cane, the candies on the whip cream, and the eyes all have glossy accents. My son loves to take a card and feel it, so on this card he can feel the raised glossy areas as well as the embossed panel.

If you know me, you know I love adding white gel pen onto my projects. This has become more and more common over the last few years, and I am totally on board. For this fun Santa mug I added swirl “squigglies” within the image for a curly beard. I haven’t seen it done before, and I am really happy with how it turned out.

I think the layers and added techniques in this card really make it stand out and have dimension without losing the clean simple overall design. I hope I have given you a few tips on elevating your designs to add texture and dimension.

Have a super crafty day!
