Hi there! Thank you for stopping by! Today I’ve altered a die set to create a pop-up card. The original die set is the beautiful Hug in a Mug die set from Super Sponsor The Greetery. I’ll go into specific details of what I altered in a moment but first let me list all the stamps & dies that I used to make this card! I used the Hug in a Mug Holiday stamp, Hug in a Mug die, Banner & Bough Stamp with Stencil and the Banner & Bough die set.
Let’s start with the easy part first, the front of the card. I used the Banner & Bough Stamp with Stencil set to first stencil in all the components as follows: banner was stenciled in with distress oxide ink in speckled egg, the shadow part of the banner was stenciled in with distress oxide ink in faded jeans, all the leaves (except the pine needles) were stenciled in with distress oxide ink in bundled sage, the yellow flowers were stenciled in with distress oxide ink in scattered straw, and the berries were stenciled in with distress oxide ink in festive berries and then overlaid with Nuvo Crystal Drops in autumn red. Finally the pine needles were stamped in with Stampin Up ink in Pear Pizzazz. I painted gold acrylic paint onto the flowers and stamped a sentiment before die cutting with Banner & Bough die set.
For the inside of the card I decided I wanted to alter the Hug in a Mug die set to create a pop-up instead of a treat box. This took me some time to figure out- but I encourage you to create a look that you want; it may take a little playing around, but that is part of the fun!
First I die cut the parts of the treat box as it was intended, and then cut parts off with a scissor so that I had die cuts that looked like what I have in the photo below. I cut the three smallest tabs off the main part of the cup and half of the bottom hexagon off (on and near the bottom of the cup)- you will need to do this to both die cuts (you need 2 of them to create the 6 sided cup). Finally I cut 4 of the tabs off the top part of the cup that has the stamped image (see final card) of the coffee & cream. All the other die cuts needed to assemble the cup are kept the same; this allows you to actually close the card. To see how the cup is normally assembled please watch the video located here.
I prepared the coffee mug as shown in the video and stamped various images from the Hug in a Mug Holiday stamp with different inks from Concord & 9th (Sprout for greenery, Sorbet for berries, Aqua Sky for snowflakes, Sea Glass for the border & Oceanside for the sentiment) and Stampin Up (Pear Pizzazz for greenery). I also die cut a coffee cozy from the Cozy Cup Coaster die and then cut it in half on a diagonal and glued it a little bit off the central fold of the card. I did the same thing when I glued the bottom of the cup as well to the inside of the card.
I hope that you’ll give this card a try! Thank you so much for stopping by!
