Hiya!!
Dana here with a new installment of Brew & Craft Your Stash!! Grab that coffee or tea and read on for some great ideas Layering Product! If this is the first time you are seeing my feature or need a refresher, click here for my very first post, it gives a little background explanation on my feature!!
We are checking out the Applying Techniques section of Paper Crafting Tips & Tricks 2012 magazine. The next technique is Layering Product and I have to be upfront, I’m not really good at this! I’m a stamper at heart, so I rarely use 100% scrapbook products on my cards! But Emily Branch has a few idea’s to help us all out!!
- Create embellishments and make a scene
- Layer embellishments to make elements bigger and more interesting
- Layer and fold shapes to make 3D embellishments
- Create a pocket from pattern paper, layer embellishments & ribbon
- Die cut pattern paper and layer with more pattern paper and matching embellishments
- Layer embellishments shapes to create dimension
I find the best way to layer product or make a collage like card is to use a Collection Pack, they have matching pattern papers, alpha stickers, and element stickers! That way you know everything matches!! For my card, I used Echo Park Paper Co – Homegrown Collection. Looking at my collection of coffee stamps I went with the airy & wismy Penny Black set Kitty’s Day stamp set. Nothing better than some coffee or tea and a kitty!!
I stamped the image on some watercolor card stock and used a few Spectrum Noir Aqua Markers that matched the paper’s colors. When it was dry I trimmed it down to a strip.
Then it was a matter of layering everything together in a way that I liked!! I started with a purple pattern paper and cut it with a stitched rectangle and adhered it to a white card base. Then I started layering stuff out, moving stuff around until I like the layout.
With the sticker elements, I pull them from the backing and use baby powder to get rid of the stickiness of the sticker. This way I can place the sticker where I want and move it around until I’m happy. Then I use either foam tape or liquid adhesive to adhere the stickers down.
I used foam tape with my stamped strip and the sentiment, the rest I adhered directly to the card or stamped panel. From my stash, I pulled out some small wood hearts and tied a small twine bow.
For those stickers that I don’t use I just put them in the collection pack to use later! I hope this gives you some ideas to use those collection packs or heck any elements or stickers you have! Layer away!!
